Historically Inspired

From childhood, Andrew Werby, enthralled by artifacts from the past: antique weapons, vessels, jewelry, statuary, and ritual objects, felt driven to emulation of their imaginative craftsmanship, if not their motifs. The production of historically-inspired objects has been a continuing thread throughout his work, perhaps as the realization of something glimpsed in a dream, or a piece of treasure unearthed from a tomb, or a reimagining of ancient functional hardware. While his signature Juxtamorphic style minimizes art-historical influence, he insists that having a style doesn’t mean one can’t work in other modes, if the mood strikes.
